On the eve of the release of Animal Collective’s much-raved-about-this-is-the-album-we’ve-been-waiting-for Merriweather Post Pavillion, and in an effort to avoid the almighty wrath of that www. sherriff we all know, here is an older version of My Girls, entitled Little Girl (I Don’t Need), recorded at the Coronet Theatre towards the end of 2007.


Animal Collective – Little Girl (I Don’t Need)

This early version is stripped back, mellow; more transient and flowing, but the premature programming is prescient of the album version, My Girls, where the beats cohere in structured uniformity amid the melodic mess off hooks and anchors and sprawling colourwheels.
