(young) god is great (larkin grimm & fire on fire)

Michael Gira’s Young God records is spewing out some ridiculously listenable and engrossing greatness, in the growling rural fireside wanderings of releases from Fire On Fire and Larkin Grimm.
Fire On Fire are a five piece thrashing out flaming country that stomps about the prairie in sharp boots. They currently reside in a big blue house across from green oil tank # 28 in South Portland, and have grown out of the dropping of electronic instruments in their previous incarnations. Hartford Blues is available as a free download ahead of their online album release on the 10th December on the Young God Records.
Larkin Grimm’s feet and wings are pictured above. She is an ex-member of Dirty Projectors, and as such, has been knocking around a while. Her debut for Young God, Parplar, is a multifarious excursion into the nooks and crannies of traditional forms, of blues and folk sometimes warped by modern influences, and often stretching backwards into sounds from a time in sepia. It warbles, it crows, it begs to differ but grants access.
Nefarious words of tearing limbs from sockets and oozing wombs are shadowed by a brisk trotting, plucking jollity directly into blue veins…
This whispers in a sinewy slalom of lyrical vines, close and frightening but out of sight; that madness which exists in the unkown darkness of midnight…
Larkin Grimm - Blond and Golden Johns
The Fire On Fire album will be available directly from the Young God website, but the Larkin Grimm record is available from all Young God stockists, that means pretty much all the ones on the right, plus, obviously Young God directly.
