What’s the difference between a re-edit and a remix, and a rework? I suppose the edit is the least radical and the rework the most. Well, enough of these geeky semantics, all I know is that there are a crop of Ulysses 82 re-edits out there that are thrusting themselves into the heart of my DJ sets with their taut, toned physiques.

Ulysses 82 post these tracks on their blog Basilika, and they mostly tend towards the dub-style edit, ie removing any extraneous treble-y nonsense and stripping the track down to its hipbones. Many feature lusciously slow rhythm guitar licks which are just way too satisfying not to lamely air-guitar to. Here’s a couple of examples:

Carol Williams – Can’t Get Away (Ulysses 82 dub)

Empress – Dyin’ To Be Dancin’ (Ulysses 82 edit)

And here’s one of their own productions, which is fantastic and surely a shoo-in for a DFA 12″ should it get heard by the relevent people:

Ulysses 82 – Come On (edit)

[...] This track which I came across whilst scuffing my toes on the internet the other day is kind of a prime example of the ensuing dilemma, its really, really great and this time last year I’d be going loop-de-loop crazy over it and resetting my ringtone – but much like the Wire has ruined regular tv for me by being too too awesome – so has living with one half of London’s greatest assault on boogie. Hey Ben,

Thank you for the post-really appreciated.
We’re in our own little 80’s funk bubble a bit at the moment, so any kind of feedback means a lot.

We’ll let you know when we put some new bits up.
There’s couple of things we’ve got ‘in the bag’ that are sounding pretty heavy, so hopefully it’s just getting started.

    Thanks again
